Effect of Tool Geometry in Stir Zone for Hook Formation of Dissimilar Aluminium Alloys: A Parametric Investigation on Metallurgical and Mechanical Characteristics

A recently developed solid-state joining technique called “friction stir spot welding” (FSSW) is used to combine metal alloys with low weldability. Significant experimental work for this study concentrated on the FSSW of AA6063 and AA5083. The involved fixture setup welding pattern parameters sizes material, all which were done a milling machine. cylindrical shoulder concave (10°) square pin profile was taken into consideration using various process parameters. tool material heat-treated high-carbon steel. Taguchi L9 orthogonal array employed model. influence factors including spindle speed, time, depth studied, along relationship between tensile strength, hardness at contact region, hook development, would be nominal metallurgical pledge established in zone among interacting sheet plate. structure found area contact, thermomechanical effects seen spot-welding area. It has been determined that influencing variables are speed plunge depth. As consequence, it 1200 rpm, time 25 seconds, 0.10 mm offer better mechanical properties. microstructural analysis welded region carried out scanning electron microscope (SEM).
